Summary of Results
- Orano
- RMI average
- Collective Best Score
Absolute results are low overall and Orano’s results are largely dependent on the formal commitments it has made, including to prevent bribery and corruption and to ensure safe and healthy working conditions, as well as its disclosures on, for example, accidents, serious injuries, and fatalities among its workforce.
Orano shows one of the stronger results on the issue of disclosure of the payments it makes to sub-national and national governments. The company also shows one of the stronger results on disclosure of the legal titles granting it the right to mine. Though not all of its legal titles are publicly disclosed, this is evidence of improvement since the RMI Report 2020.
Orano’s shows one of the three stronger results in one thematic area – Working Conditions – and one of the five stronger results in another: Business Conduct. However the company’s results are below average for three thematic areas: Economic Development, Lifecycle Management, and Community Wellbeing. Orano’s overall results are limited by a lack of evidence of action on a number of key issues, including ensuring its operations integrate human rights into their management of security personnel, and collaborating with sub-national governments on socio-economic development planning. Furthermore, there is no evidence of Orano tracking its performance on preventing bribery and corruption, tracking the effectiveness of its community grievance mechanisms, or tracking its performance on respecting the rights and aspirations of Indigenous Peoples.
In the mine-site assessment, Orano ranks 5th among the 40 companies on its mine-site-level results, though with an average score of only 16%. Neither of the two Orano sites assessed show any relevant evidence on six of the fifteen issues covered: air quality, water quality, safety of communities, community grievances, women workers, and living wage.
