Company report
Summary of Results
- Grupo México
- RMI average
- Collective Best Score
Absolute results remain low overall and Grupo México’s results are largely dependent on the formal commitments it has made, for example to prevent bribery and corruption and to ensure safe and healthy working conditions.
Grupo México shows evidence of improvement since the RMI Report 2020, including on systems to develop water stewardship strategies based on a catchment-level approach, a new formal policy to manage its environmental impacts, and data disclosures on its performance in reducing Scope 1, 2, and 3 greenhouse gas emissions.
In the company-wide assessment, Grupo México’s overall results are below the average in five of the six thematic areas: Economic Development, Business Conduct, Lifecycle Management, Community Wellbeing, and Environmental Responsibility. The company’s overall results are limited by a lack of evidence of action on some key issues. For example, Grupo México shows no evidence that it ensures its operations plan for the management of post-closure transition for workers, or that it tracks and reviews the effectiveness of its performance in managing any impacts of its activities on women. In addition, the company shows no evidence that it has systems in place to identify and address how climate change can exacerbate the environmental impacts of their operations.
Grupo México ranks 23rd among the 40 companies on its mine-site-level results, with an average score of only 7% in the mine-site assessment. Grupo México’s results in the mine-site assessment are strikingly weak. Aside from some limited evidence on worker grievances, none of the seven mine sites assessed show any relevant evidence for ten of the fifteen issues covered by this assessment: local employment, local procurement, air quality, water quality, water quantity, post-closure, tailings, safety of community, women workers, and living wage.
