Absolute results remain low overall and KGHM’s results are largely dependent on commitments it has made, including to prevent bribery and corruption and to ensure safe and healthy working conditions, as well as its public disclosures, such as on the payments it makes to sub-national and national governments and on the number and location of its tailings storage facilities.

In the company-wide assessment, KGHM’s overall results are below the average in all six thematic areas. The company’s overall results are limited by a lack of evidence of action on some key issues, including human rights. For example, KGHM shows no evidence of operationalising its (limited) commitment on human rights, or tracking its performance on managing human rights issues. Likewise, there is no evidence of KGHM committing to not explore or mine in World Heritage Sites and to respect other protected areas, or evidence of disclosing all the legal titles granting it the right to mine.

KGHM ranks 35th among the 40 companies on its mine-site-level results, with an average score of only 2% in the mine-site assessment. The results of the seven KGHM mine sites in the assessment are strikingly weak. None of these mine sites show any relevant evidence on thirteen of the fifteen issues covered: local employment, local procurement, air quality, water quality, water quantity, post-closure, safety of community, community grievances, safety of workers, women workers, training of workers, decent living wage, and worker grievances.
