Absolute results remain low overall and Boliden’s results are largely dependent on its commitments, including to prevent bribery and corruption and ensure safe and healthy working conditions, as well as its public disclosures, such as on its implementation of progressive rehabilitation plans, and the number and location of its tailings storage facilities.

In the company-wide assessment, Boliden’s overall results are below the average in all six thematic areas. The company’s results are limited by a lack of evidence of action on some key issues, including human rights. There is no evidence of a formal commitment to respect human rights, or of efforts made by the company to assess and address the risks of child labour or forced labour in its operations and supply chains. Likewise, there is no evidence of Boliden disclosing all the legal titles granting it the right to mine, or of it having designed and implemented water stewardship strategies and plans.

Boliden ranks 29th among the 40 companies on its mine-site-level results, with an average score of only 5% in the mine-site assessment. The results of the six Boliden mine sites in the assessment are strikingly weak. None of these mine sites show any relevant evidence on eight of the fifteen issues covered: local procurement, post-closure, community grievances, safety of workers, women workers, workplace deaths and injuries, worker training, and living wage.
